Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) has received an almighty shock, as her estranged father Terry Cant (Glen Davies) arrived in Albert Square.

This will undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin for her decision to leave the area.

As viewers will know, Nat called time on her 32 year stint earlier this year, and her final scenes are expected to air this week.

In the last year, Sonia has had a lot on her plate – she was wrongly imprisoned for a murder that her fiancé Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) committed, gave birth to their daughter in the moments following his death, and has had an explosive fall-out with sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer).

This is, of course, because she also found herself falling victim to Reiss.

Believing that selling her story to a journalist would act as a form of therapy, Bianca spilled. This has had devastating consequences for the pair.

It soon transpired that he is Sonia’s dad, and wants to speak with his daughter.

But what do we know about Terry Cant, and what are the circumstances surrounding his return?

Who is Terry Cant in EastEnders?
Terry is the ex-boyfriend of Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson), who soon became a father figure to Bianca and her brother Robbie (Dean Gaffney).

In 1984, Carol fell pregnant with his child, but was unwilling to raise her daughter in an abusive environment.

Shortly after Sonia was born, Terry fled and took all of Carol’s belongings.

She then met Alan Jackson (Howard Antony) and the couple had a child of their own, Billie (Devon Anderson). In 1993, the family moved to Albert Square.

What does Sonia know about her dad?
When Bianca learnt that David Wicks (Michael French) was her biological father, Robbie also began to ask questions.

Sonia asserted that she viewed Alan as her dad, and didn’t want to know the truth.

However, 25 years later, her interest was piqued.

She searched for his name online, and hoped to reconnect.

Why did Rocky Cotton pose as Terry?
The following year, Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) turned up on Sonia’s doorstep and claimed to be Terry.

She became fully fooled – unaware that he was actually plotting with niece Dotty (Milly Zero) to get Dot’s inheritance money.

Guilt-ridden Rocky later suffered a heart attack as a result of his stress, and Dotty told everyone the truth over Christmas dinner.

Why has Terry Cant arrived in EastEnders?
Terry told Bianca that he had seen the media upheaval, and whilst it wasn’t the best timing, hoped he could forge a bond with Sonia.

Bianca ordered him to leave and not come back, and told Sonia that he was just another of the group who had heard the podcast.

However, despite appearing to drive off, he came back to the house and knocked on the door.
