The downfall of Emmerdale villain Joe Tate looks to be close. This week, Caleb Milligan has been getting closer to the truth about his nephew’s sinister crime at his expense.

The dark organ theft storyline has been at the centre of the soap’s storyline. Joe returned to the village this year with chronic kidney disease, he’d returned seeking a kidney transplant.

He had targeted his nearest and dearest, initially drugging his half-brother Noah Dingle, which led to the teenager being admitted to a private hospital. Fans speculated this was an attempt to steal his kidney, although the incident resulted in a deadly limo crash as the vehicle swerved to avoid Noah in the middle of the road.

Joe eventually decided to steal his uncle Caleb’s kidney. With a dodgy doctor, they ensured he was a match by illegally obtaining a vial of his blood. After a planned stabbing, Caleb was taken to a clinic where his kidney was removed and given to Joe.

The secret girlfriend of Joe, Dawn, may have given his scheming away in this evening’s episode. Walking through the village with Caleb, Dawn told him that Joe had told her to “get lost” this morning after finding out he was in pain.

Questioning the passing statement further, Caleb probed “as he been in the wars?” Dawn responded “he slipped in the shower in America and he had to get stitched up in hospital” adding that it is “worse” than he is letting on.

When asked where on his body he hurt himself, Dawn pointed to her kidney area. In doing this, she obliviously heightened suspicions and gave Caleb more substance to his thoughts.

Caleb turned up at Joe’s house after the conversation trying to find more answers. Offering his nephew a hug, they hugged as Caleb told him: “What is it that they say? Keep your friends closer and your enemies closer”, before landing several blows to the kidney area of the soap villain.

The attack continued as Caleb commented “You don’t even care what you did to me”, before revealing that killing him would be the easy way out and he would “much rather” watch him spend the last of his days in prison and behind bars.

Admitting to the serious crime, Joe smugly responded “I didn’t only cover my tracks, I obliterated them”, making the point that Caleb’s involvement with the murder of Antony Fox has not been forgotten.

The episode ended with Caleb confiding in Cain Dingle about the dark situation. He asked if Cain was able to get hold of another gun, as the two got into a discussion about murder and how he wants Joe to die.

He revealed Joe’s twisted plan to Cain, explaining how the organ theft had happened and that he is now being blackmailed over Antony’s death. Caleb admitted “I don’t just want Joe dead, I want him annihilated.” As he asked Cain for his help.
