It’s been confirmed in Emmerdale that Aidan Moore is the man John visited in hospital. Here’s what happens next.

Aidan is in a coma, but it was previously thought that he was dead due to John Sugden telling half-sister Victoria that he’d died in Afghanistan.

After Victoria did some digging into mysterious John last year, she came across dog tags with Aidan’s name on and demanded John tell her who exactly Aidan was. John shared that Aidan had been his best mate in the army but had died in Afghanistan.

John went into detail as he emotionally opened up about Aidan’s supposed death. He told Victoria that he tried his best to save Aidan, telling her: “I told him I could, but I was lying, I had to. I could see the fear in his eyes, I held his hand as he slowly slipped away.”

But we now know all of that is a lie as Aidan is most definitely not dead and he is in fact in a coma in hospital in Leeds.

As wedding plans got into full swing, Aaron Dingle asked who John would like to invite to their big day.

John went quiet before admitting that he didn’t have much family to speak of and that he’d lost touch with his school friends when he joined the army. When Aaron asked about his army mates, John responded: “Well, I love them like brothers. We’ve been through hell together, but that part of my life is over now.”

Later, John arrived at the hospital, where he greeted ‘Kathleen’. It was later established that Kathleen is Aidan’s mum.

As Kathleen left to give John and her son some privacy, John spoke to Aidan.”Your mum still thinks you’re going to come out of this. Bless her. As if that’s gonna happen. You’re stuck. Locked in for eternity,” he cruelly told the man in a coma.

He did, however, share his guilt for Aidan’s situation, telling him: “I saved Jacob. Nice lad. You don’t know him, but I worked my magic. Gave him another shot at life. The one thing I couldn’t do for you. You know I tried my best to save you, but every time I come here, every time I see you like this, I cannot help but blame myself.”

John then detailed some information about the nature of his relationship with Aidan, and it appears the men were more than just friends. As John shared that he had met someone else, he said: “You know Aaron’s a good person. He loves me. He tells me how much all the time. That wasn’t your style was it? You never let me forget I was second best.”

Viewers were still unaware exactly who the man was, but as John finished up his speech, he finally said his name.

“He sees me in a way you never did,” he said about Aaron “He makes me feel like I matter and I love him for that. So this is goodbye. I won’t come here again. It wouldn’t be fair to Aaron or to you. Be happy for me… Aidan.”

What happens next in Emmerdale?
With John and Aaron’s stag do and wedding approaching, Victoria Sugden is eager to get in touch with John’s soldier mates.

She soon meets up with his former pal, Connor. As they discuss John, Victoria is shocked when it comes to light that Aidan Moore is still alive.

Connor opens up to Victoria about what went down in Afghanistan and reveals that Aidan is not dead, he is actually in a coma at a hospital in Leeds.

Victoria is angry that John would lie to her and heads to the hospital to see Aidan for herself. As she enters Aidan’s hospital room, she is shaken by the truth and quickly leaves.

Later, Victoria reveals to John that she knows the truth about Aidan. An agitated John is in flight mode as Victoria berates him for lying. What will John do next?
