Coronation Street Eileen Grimshaw star’s new job ‘exposed’ after quitting soap

Coronation Street’s beloved character Eileen Grimshaw is set to bid farewell to the streets of Weatherfield for good later in the year.

Sue Cleaver, who has portrayed Eileen for 25 years, has wrapped up filming her final scenes on the iconic set.

Her co-star Tony Maudsley, known for his role as George Shuttleworth who’s romantically linked with Eileen on the show, took to Instagram to post a snapshot capturing the moment the cast and crew gave a standing ovation to the departing soap star on her last day.

In the shared image, Sue beams amidst a shower of flowers and presents, offering two thumbs up while standing beside her on-screen sons Ryan Thomas and Gareth Pierce, actors for Jason and Todd Grimshaw respectively, as well as Tony himself.

Sue made her intentions to leave public earlier in January and expressed to The Sun on Sunday: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.”, reports Belfast Live.

“The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

Betway Insider has now tipped Sue as the favourite to join BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef or to possibly front her own programme post-Corrie life.

Current wagering suggests the Loose Women panel regular might be seen donning a chef’s hat on Celebrity MasterChef or presenting her very own television series, with odds sitting at 4/1 according to gambling experts.

Meanwhile, there’s speculation that she might be joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing, with odds currently at 6/1.

However, it seems the actress will stay true to her Corrie roots – as the chances of her joining rival soaps Emmerdale and EastEnders are pegged at 12/1 and 16/1 respectively.

Discussing Sue’s departure, Corrie producer Kate Brooks expressed in a statement: “We’re sad to bid farewell to the wonderful Sue Cleaver.

“Over the past 25 years, Eileen Grimshaw has been at the heart of some of the most memorable and iconic Corrie storylines, and her on-screen rivalry with Gail Platt will undoubtedly go down in Corrie folklore.

“There’s certainly no one quite like Eileen, and her character will be hugely missed on the cobbles. We wish Sue all the very best as she embarks on her next exciting chapter.”

Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
