Taylor Sheridan’s Best Show Since Yellowstone Dethrones Criminal Minds on Streaming

Landman, one of Taylor Sheridan’s best shows since the end of Yellowstone, has overtaken Criminal Minds on the streaming charts. Both series are available on Paramount+.

FlixPatrol reports that Landman is up one spot on the Top 10 Paramount+ Overall chart for June 26, surpassing Criminal Minds. Landman is now holding the fourth spot, pushing Criminal Minds down to number five. At the top of the chart is MobLand, the Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan British crime drama, with The Chi and Beyond the Gates taking second and third place respectively. Sheridan’s Landman series premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024 and was renewed for a second season.

Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a petroleum landman and the OPerations VP at M-Tex Oil. The series is set in West Texas, with Thornton’s character butting heads with an out-of-town lawyer who begins investigating a fatal accident. Demi Moore, Jon Hamm and Ali Larter also star.

After its release, Landman was praised for its plot and Thornton’s performance, though critics did note that it had some considerable overlap with some of Sheridan’s other works. The show currently has a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a similarly high audience score of 63%.

Landman overtaking Criminal Minds is somewhat of a surprise since the Season 1 finale aired over six months ago, whereas Criminal Minds is currently airing new episodes weekly. Criminal Minds Season 18 premiered on May 8 for a 10-episode run that is expected to conclude on July 10. The long-running crime drama was revived by Paramount+ in 2022 and re-titled Criminal Minds: Evolution beginning Season 16.

Landman’s continued rise to the top proves Sheridan’s considerable power when it comes to crafting shows that audiences are eager to binge-watch. Last week, three of Sheridan’s series were dominating streaming platforms around the world. Yellowstone, one of his most critically acclaimed works, took the number three spot on Paramount+ globally, despite its series finale airing in December 2024. Two of his other shows, Lioness and Tulsa King, charted at number five and six globally, too.

A New Season of Landman Is On The Way

Thornton recently teased where Landman’s story will be heading in Season 2, including a much bigger role for Demi Moore, who plays Cami Miller. “Since [Cami] doesn’t really know the oil business that well, I’m there with her to show her how these people operate,” Thornton teased.

“You can know something intellectually, but what are the street smarts behind it? I know how to deal with these people she’s going to have to deal with. I just tell her, ‘Look, some of these deals you can take, but when it gets really weird and difficult, let me know, because I know these guys,” the actor added.
