We may be saying goodbye to Yellowstone, but we can still look forward to another spin-off series set in the same universe.

Taylor Sheridan’s modern Western drama series seemingly wrapped up with its season five finale on 15 December. While some fans are still holding out hope for a season six, viewers can rest assured that there’s still plenty of Yellowstone-adjacent stories to explore thanks to a forthcoming spin-off series, The Madison.

Instead of the Dutton family, the new sequel show will reportedly follow the lives of a New York City family who have moved to Montana. Ahead, we break down everything there is to know about The Madison, including plot details, the anticipated release date and casting news.

What will The Madison be about?
The official logline for The Madison describes the spin-off as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana”.

While the synopsis implies that The Madison’s main crop of characters will be entirely new, it’s still possible that we’ll continue to see the Duttons, especially considering that Sheridan’s other spin-off series — 1923 and 1883 — continued to explore the Dutton family line prior to Yellowstone’s John (Kevin Costner) and Beth (Kelly Reilly).

“It’s such a different story,” director Christina Alexandra teased in a November 2024 interview with Variety. “The common ground is the landscape. We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”

Who will be in The Madison?
Paramount Network announced in August 2024 that Michelle Pfeiffer had been cast as The Madison’s leading character, Stacy.

Other actors who have since been cast include Suits star Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett, and Amiah Miller. Adams and Chapman will play Russell and Paige McIntosh, a young and wealthy couple from New York; Garrett will play Abigail Reese, a recent divorcée, while Miller will play her eldest daughter, Bridgett.

In December 2024, Variety reported that four new names were added to the cast list: Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Alaina Pollack, and Danielle Vasinova. Zegers is set to play Stacy’s neighbor Cade. Spence will play Liliana Weeks, Stacy’s friend and a New York City socialite. Pollack will play Macy, Abigail’s younger daughter. Finally, Vasinova will play Kestrel, an Indigenous woman who married a Montana rancher.

In 2023, Matthew McConaughey was rumoured to lead the spin-off series, which was then dubbed 2024. However, his attachment to the project has not since been confirmed.

When will The Madison premiere?
The sequel show is currently in the midst of filming. As of December 2024, Paramount has not confirmed a release date for The Madison.
