Coronation Street is set to be rocked by another major death in explosive scenes as one character’s time on the show comes to a dramatic end.

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) has been part of some enormous storylines during his time on the cobbles, and his exit looks set to be equally as big.

The actor announced his departure from the ITV soap earlier this year, after playing the vicar for 11 years.

‘I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life,’ he said. ‘I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not look forward to going into work.

‘I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.’

Now, it has been reported that the character will be killed off in explosive scenes.

‘There aren’t any plans to bring him back onto the soap so it makes sense to make his exit the most impactful and explosive it can be,’ a source told The Sun, after revealing that ‘Corrie bosses are busy plotting how to kill off Billy’.

His most recent storyline saw him support husband Paul Foreman through his motor neurone disease, only to be left devastated when he couldn’t be at his side when he died.

During Paul’s illness, he and Billy became the first gay couple on the show to get married.

Speaking about Billy’s exit, producer Kate Brooks previously said: ‘Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.

‘We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND. An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.’
