Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (16 May), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street delves into Kit Green and Mick Michaelis’s dark past tonight, as we discover that they were both involved in a nasty crime as teenagers.
The revelations unfold in a special flashback episode, which takes viewers back to 2007 and explores how Kit, Mick and Lou were all close friends when they were at school together.
While Mick was known for causing trouble back in the day, it was Kit who proved to be the bad influence in a defining moment for the pair.
The lads found themselves at odds with a local shopkeeper after teaming up to steal cider from his store, leaving him furious.

When a guilty Kit later returned to pay for the stolen goods, the shopkeeper was unforgiving and made some harsh remarks about Mick’s troubled family background.
Mick was prepared to let it go, but it was an emotional Kit who suggested that they should make a revenge plan so that he’d regret his comments…
In a shocking moment, Kit and Mick pushed lit fireworks through the letterbox of the shop while it was closed, believing it to be empty.
Sadly, the shopkeeper’s wife was inside for the terrifying moment and she suffered third degree burns.

As Mick was caught at the scene of the crime, he was sent to the Secure Training Centre (STC) as punishment, while the true mastermind Kit kept quiet and remained free.
With an unblemished record, Kit was able to pursue a career in the police, while Mick’s life was forever changed by his experiences.
In the present day, Kit explains everything in a rare heart-to-heart with his concerned mum Bernie Winter.

“I should have gone down for it. I shouldn’t have been allowed to join the force, anyway,” he admits.
“So I lied and lied. I let my best mate take the rap. Mick had a record, so he got a custodial. He moved away soon after. I joined another school, got into uni and all that, then joined the force.

Joe Layton, who plays Mick, previously told us: “If Mick could go back in time, his choices could have been made differently. We’ll see that in the flashback episode – the context of that is really important.
“It doesn’t condone his behaviour in any way, but it’s really complicated. As we get further into the storyline and we learn more about that, it will add hopefully a bit of light and shade to Mick – the complexity of him as a man, what he’s been through and what he’s going through.
“But he becomes fixated on Kit and it becomes about rage and finding a channel to outlet his emotions through…”
