Lily Platt in Coronation Street
Coronation Street fans have been left baffled by the new Lily Platt, and they don’t just mean because a new actress is now playing her.
This week, Jack P Shepherd, who is famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, was seen welcoming Grace Ashcroft-Gardner onto the show as his new on-screen daughter.
It’s not unusual for soap characters’ faces to change over the years, with new actors brought in to play existing roles, particularly when younger and growing up in front of viewers’ eyes.
The latest is Lily, who has been played by several actors since the character was born in 2013, including two sets of twins. Lily was first played by twins Ava and Lilly Bushell from her birth in August 2013 until August 2014.

Betsie and Emmie Taylor took over the role from September 2014 until May 2016. It was then in the same year that Brooke Malonie was brought in to take on the role of Lily.
But she’s now left, it’s Grace now playing the youngster and she made her on-screen debut in Monday’s (July 14) Corrie, where she made a cruel move towards cousin, Sam Blakeman, amidst killer Mick Michaelis’ prison escape.
Marking her debut, Grace took to Instagram and shared behind the scenes pictures with her fellow young stars and alongside Jack. She said: “I am so excited to share my news that I have joined the cast of @coronationstreet playing the role of Lily Platt!
“It’s been a brilliant few months since my first audition, which wouldn’t have happened without the fantastic @stageboxkids team (who I can’t thank enough!).

“The whole Corrie team, the cast and crew have been absolutely amazing, I couldn’t have asked for any more support during my first few weeks filming on the cobbles. My first episode is being aired on ITV at 8pm tonight! It’s a brilliant episode, so make sure to watch! #coronationstreet.”
The dance company Grace attends, called Charlotte Read Dance Company, also shared their own post to celebrate Grace having landed the huge TV role, which is when Jack sweetly shared: “Yay! Great to have part of the family Grace.”
But as they’ve now seen more of Lily on-screen, Corrie fans have shared how ‘different’ the character seems, and even admitted she’s now appearing more like her late mum, Kylie Platt, who was killed nine years ago.
