Coronation Street icon exits after four years and triggers devastation in her wake

Coronation Street has confirmed that a leading character will leave devastation in her wake when she exits the ITV soap after four explosive years.

It’s no secret that actress Charlotte Jordan quit the soap, meaning that the end of Daisy Midgeley is imminent, and now the actress has delivered fresh details, promising that the ripples her alter-ego triggers will be felt for some time.

‘I think it’s very bittersweet for Daisy,’ she sighed. ‘Weatherfield has been her home for a while now and, early on, was giving her all the things she wanted – family, community, stability, people to love more than she perhaps loves herself – but it’s also been the source of so much trauma for her.

‘I think we’ve watched her slowly try to pick up the pieces since her stalking storyline, but she’s ultimately realised she doesn’t need to stay in a place that’s caused her so much heartbreak.

‘And it’s just as well she’s running far away to the other side of the planet, as she’s left a mountain of destruction and angry people in her wake!’

Jenny’s fury – the final betrayal
One of those is Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), who will be left distraught both by Daisy’s departure and recent actions against her.

‘It’s so fractured now. And it’s so sad, as we’re used to seeing them so in sync,’ Charlotte reflected on the state of the relationship.

‘I think Daisy’s harbouring some real resentment there, especially after what Jenny said about her miscarriage and her little brother’s death. She feels she’s very much been backed into a corner here.

‘I suppose that’s the only way she can justify her final betrayal of Jenny – it’s actually very reminiscent of Jenny’s early relationship with Rita. It’s like Daisy is Jenny’s penance for all the grief she used to give poor Rita!’

Metro won’t reveal the full details on this final betrayal and the ramifications beyond, but suffice to say that it’s not a quiet goodbye from Daisy – and it will trigger emotive scenes for Jenny moving forwards.

Daisy and Daniel – happy never after
Jenny isn’t the only one suffering a blow either – fans of Daisy and Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) relationship are now facing up to their final parting. And it’s a sad case of affairs, as Charlotte reckons there is still a lot of love there.

Confirming Daisy will always love Daniel, the actress mused: ‘I think they’ll both be each other’s “what if” love story. I think we’ll all be mourning what could have been.

‘I think she also knows, deep down, that if Daniel were fully aware of what she’s about to do to Jenny, he wouldn’t be willing to let it slide and continue to stand by her side. So it’s almost like she’s cutting him loose before she can see how disappointed in her he’ll be.’

You will have to wait and see exactly how Daisy and Daniel leave things with one another, and how hard Jenny is hit with that final betrayal, but there were may have been even more emotion backstage than on-screen.

Not a dry eye!
‘I’m not a big crier. But let me tell you, I cried on and off for about four hours straight!’ Charlotte shared. ‘My last scene was with the beautiful Rob Mallard, and we were meant to cry in the scene – but we were both dry as a bone. As soon as they yelled our final “cut,” we both burst into tears. Typical.

‘The Corrie gang made it so special for me. The canteen made me my favourite lunch – which made me cry. The art department drew me a beautiful card – which made me cry.

‘I would look over to Channique or Julia or Sal during our last lunch break and see them crying – which made me cry. I think I was medically dehydrated by the end of the day.

‘It’s a very special building, and I have loved it. And it’s just goodbye for now, not goodbye forever.’
