Coronation Street fans will see the truth of what really happened to Gary Windass in a series of flashbacks next week.
It’s been revealed that the reformed bad boy was attacked and left fighting for his life, with his family completely unaware of what he’s going through.
He left earlier in June to visit his mum, Anna, amid rising tensions at home with his wife, Maria. Next week, Maria calls at the station and reports Gary missing.
When DC Kit Green reveals they’ve had a report from the hospital of an unidentified coma patient, DS Lisa Swain wonders if it could be Gary.
Maria confides in Sarah Platt that Gary hasn’t made any bank transactions since June 23. Nina Lucas listens, deeply worried, before telling Summer Spellman about Gary’s disappearance and how he’s not been seen since the night they were high on drugs and left someone for dead.

But Summer reminds her that there were no reports of an assault. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Gary lies unconscious whilst the nurse assures a visitor that Chesney is making improvements.
Kit soon breaks the news to Maria that the patient wasn’t Gary but assures her he’ll do his best to track him down. A series of flashbacks will then revisit the fateful night as we uncover what really happened.
Later, Gary still in hospital, his attacker tries to cover their tracks. Can Kit or Maria get to the bottom of what happened and will Gary pull through?
Elsewhere in Weatherfield, Kevin Webster tells half-brother Carl that he’s been given the all clear and he’s cancer free. Confused by Kevin’s apparent lie, Abi puts Carl straight.
She explains that Kevin hasn’t been given the all clear, and needs to undergo another round of chemo. But soon, Abi’s horrified to find Kevin and Carl at loggerheads.

Later, when Kevin strains his groin playing football with Jack, Abi tells him it’s time he told his family the truth. Kevin makes out to Debbie Wesbter and Tyrone Dobbs that his cancer was unresponsive and he has to have further chemo.
Feeling the pressure, Kevin later blurts out to a stunned Tyrone that he lied and his cancer has gone. What is Kevin up to?
Meanwhile, Dee-Dee Bailey masks her guilt as she collects Laila from brother James. As she celebrates with Laila’s Godparents, Alya Nazir and Adam Barlow, and thanks Billy Mayhew for a lovely christening, will James discover that Dee-Dee went against his wishes.
Later, in the Rovers, a guy called Ollie introduces himself to Dee-Dee and insists on buying her a drink. As Ollie chats her up, Dee-Dee can’t help being charmed. But she’s soon brought back to reality when James tells Dee-Dee he’s spoken to the adoption team to set the wheels in motion.
Also on the cobbles, Carla Connor does her best to convince Lisa that therapy can really help, but Lisa’s sceptical. When the therapist suggests they talk about late wife Becky, Lisa’s thrown into turmoil.
