It seems the drama may be far from over for the Platt family in Coronation Street as Jack P Shepherd confirmed a ‘really dark storyline’ ahead of going into the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The actor is currently take a break from the drama in Weatherfield for the drama that may be created by his fellow housmates in the ITV reality show.

But his move into the famous compound came after Jack had a busy start to the year as David Platt in Corrie. As fans of the ITV soap know, his character recently faced the unnerving threat of Harvey Gaskell.

It had become clear in recent weeks and months that David and his family were being targeted by the gangster from behind bars after stealing money which belonged to him.

With his stepson, Max Turner, already behind bars for arson, having started the fire that destroyed No.8 Coronation Street in a botched insurance job, the youngest of Gail Platt’s children was seen deciding to take drastic action.

After taking some time to think, David called former prison mate Andy Garland to Audrey Roberts’ salon and asked him to take his life as it was the only way to keep his family safe, before planning for Andy to run him over with a car in the middle of the street.

When his final moments began, David stood in the middle of the road. A car then came hurtling at speed, and Shona watched in horror as David was hit, with Daisy Midgeley caught in the crossfire and she tragically lost her unborn child in the aftermath.

While things have since been quieter for the Platts, with Harvey paid off, it appears that won’t last for long as Jack teased tears are on the way.

Inside Soap spoke to Jack days before he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and said: “I think an episode is coming up in May with a really dark storyline, and David’s just making gags throughout the scene. It’s not meant to be that funny but I was like, ‘Look, everyone’s crying,’ and the director went, ‘Yeah I see your point, fair enough, carry on!’.”

It came as he was asked if he could see himself doing another 25 years in Corrie, matching the tenure of his on-screen mum Helen Worth, who left the cobbles at Christmas after 50 years of playing Gail Platt.

He told the publication: “Easily. If the Platts are still thereabouts and we’re getting storylines, I don’t see why not if the show still likes the character and the audience do, too.”

David’s antics have often landed him in trouble during his time in Weatherfield but Jack believes that the various sides to the character’s personality allows others to forgive him for his wrongdoings.

He said: “Luckily, he has lots of sides to his character. He can be aggressive and nasty, but in the next episode, you can be laughing at him. You forget the bad stuff he does quickly.”

Jack also revealed that his proudest moment on Corrie was the live episode in 2015 to mark the 60th anniversary of ITV – where David and his then-wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) covered up the murder of Callum Logan (Sean Ward).

He recalled: “The live episode in 2015 was like doing a little dance; at one point I knew I had 45 seconds to get from the Platts’ house set to the Platts’ back garden. Paula Lane and I had to leg it and it was exciting. As a team, you’re all in it together.”
