Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has said Gary Windass has ‘a lot of enemies’ as he’s left fighting for his life following a shock attack.

The reformed bad boy was seen during Friday night’s (June 27) edition of the ITV soap lying in a hospital bed have sparked concern about his whereabouts.

During the episode, wife Maria Windass and stepson Liam Connor were growing increasingly concerned about where Gary was after he left earlier this month to stay with his mum, Anna.

Their concerns continued, even though Gary had appeared to have texted to say he was staying with a friend and just needed some space.

While that was going on, Nina Lucas was struggling to keep quiet about what she and Summer Spellman saw after taking LDS at Aadi Alahan’s party earlier in the week.

They were convinced that they left someone to die that night, but Summer has convinced Nina they need to remain quiet. Roy Cropper later found Nina upset in the memorial garden, and she eventually admitted to her uncle that she took drugs at the party.

She explained that there was a man who lunged at her that night, so she pushed him away and he fell and hit his head on the ground – reminding her of her late boyfriend Seb Franklin’s tragic death.

Roy encouraged Nina to report what she knew to the police, and she ended up giving a hazy recollection of what happened to DC Kit Green. While she believed she committed a crime, with no evidence or report of an assault, there wasn’t anything Kit could do.

Sure there was more to what happened, she vowed to find out who it was that lunged at her that night. As she made her comments, viewers saw the shocking glimpse of Gary a battered and bruised Gary, who is lying in a hospital bed in a coma.

In upcoming scenes, Maria will report Gary as a missing person to DC Kit Green and learns about an unidentified coma patient. Viewers will also learn the extent his attacker has taken to cover their tracks by fraudulently claiming to be his next of kin.

Asked about Maria being told it isn’t Gary in the hospital, Samia shared: “When Maria learns that Gary isn’t the coma patient, she is with Kit and confides in him that she knows it’s awful but she actually wishes it was him just so she knew where he was.

“It’s bittersweet for Maria because she’s of course glad Gary isn’t in a coma, although little does she know he actually is, but at the same time she’s worried even more now because her fear is he could be in a worse condition or even dead.”

When she does find out the truth of Gary’s condition, will Maria be eager to find out how is responsible? “Maria’s mind is spiralling now but she doesn’t stop for a second to think who actually attacked him and put him in a coma,” Samia said.

She added: “She’s aware Gary has got a lot of enemies from over the years who could have potentially wanted to take revenge on him.”
