Coronation Street star Cait Fitton and Sydney Martin have been championing their new on-screen friendship – but fans have been having other ideas.

The two actresses are best known to viewers of the ITV soap for playing troublesome teens Lauren Bolton and Betsy Swain.

Cait made her debut in the role of troubled Lauren back in late 2022 alongside her evil dad, Reece Bolton, who was a member of Griff Reynolds’ far-right gang.

Then, months after being involved in Max Turner’s far-right storyline, she was thrown in turmoil as her alter-ego was abused by solicitor Joel Deering.

Lauren has since faced further turmoil, with her son, Frankie, being born early before later being given the devastating diagnosis of aplastic anaemia, all while she was charged with the murder of Joel, before being cleared by a jury.

Meanwhile, Sydney made her TV debut in the role of Betsy last summer. She was revealed to be the daughter of established character DS Lisa Swain, last summer after already popping up in the ITV soap, simply as Sabrina Adetiba’s mate, again amidst the Joel grooming storyline.

But Betsy and Lauren recently ended up intertwined for the wrong reasons. Earlier this month, Lauren found Betsy destroying the contents of the florist van, after earlier railing at Tracy Barlow over the Rob Donovan shooting which saw her injured.

But as Lauren was trying to persuade Betsy to leave, Tracy approached and in a panic, Lauren set off with Betsy in the van. Soon after, in the precinct, Lauren and Betsy were left surveying the smashed up van and as a panicky Lauren admitted that she’s never passed her test, a police car pulled up nearby.

Betsy told Lauren to leave, after she said she’d lose Frankie if she got into trouble again. Betsy then took the full blame for what had happened, even though her mum DS Lisa Swain thought she was covering someone.

But after Betsy was questioned at the police station and given a verbal bashing by both her mum and Tracy, she met up with Lauren to let her know that she was in the clear.

Lauren has since been blackmailed over the crash, by Gary Windass and Izzy Armstrong’s son Jake after he got a picture of Lauren in the driver’s seat, and it caused tension with Betsy when she wrongly accused friend Bobby Crawford of being behind the messages and demands for cash.

During Wednesday’s (May 14) Corrie, Betsy arrived at the café and immediately laid into Lauren for using Bobby’s money, which he gave her to pay off her blackmailer, for a deposit on a new flat.

Though Lauren insisted she’d pay him back, Betsy didn’t believe her, and soon the argument escalated and Lauren grabbed a bottle of ketchup to squirt at Betsy – only for Roy Cropper to get caught in the crossfire., much to the horror of Carla Connor who arrived after the row.

Later, Lauren paid Betsy a visit to clear the air, and Betsy agreed to forgive her and awkwardly smiled when she admitted to Lauren that she recently thought they could be good mates.

Off-screen, Cait and Betsy are the best of friends and amid the latest chaos for the pair on-screen, Sydney shared a video on TikTok in which they could be seen messing around in their dressing room to a revamped version of Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Bonkers’ that included audio from their row scene.

“We’re just as crazy in real [life] – long live Betsy Lauren friendship,” Sydney captioned the post. And fans think there’s more to come for the pair as they cast their verdict.
