Coronation Street star Colson Smith has revealed that “he is waiting to hear back” from a hit BBC show with his final scenes on the ITV soap set to air this month.
Taking his first steps in Weatherfield back in 2011 aged just 11, Corrie fans quickly took the youngster into their hearts as he played the mischievous Craig Tinker, the younger son of Beth Tinker (Lisa George).

But, after spending an impressive 14 years on the show, it was announced earlier this year that his time was due to come to an end, with his final scenes airing later this month.
However, with his last moments on the show fast approaching, Colson has admitted that he has his sights set on a quick return to our screens, confirming that he has shot a self-tape for a popular BBC show.

Chatting with his Corrie co-stars, Ben Price and Jack P Shepherd on their On The Sofa podcast, Colson revealed how he has tried his luck at landing a role on Ludwig, starring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin.
Sharing that he is going for the role of the policeman on the show, he explained the difficulties of playing a role so similar to that of PC Tinker in Corrie: “I think it was too similar to Craig Tinker. I find it very, very difficult to play a copper.”
He added: “The casting brief, like I basically did a brainstorm of everything that was on the casting brief, it was like cringey, likeable. I was going through it and it was grating.”

While he’s still waiting to hear whether he has been successful, he did confess that he doesn’t hold out much hope of securing the new role, saying: “I did it and I’ve not heard anything back, so that’s the way it goes. But, I think it was just nice to do my first tape and it was for a relatively big (production), I knew I wasn’t going to get it sort of thing, because one, it was for a big show and two, a copper, but it was just a nice experience to get out and do it.”
With his final scenes for the popular ITV soap already filmed and his last moments on the cobbles soon to air, his time on the street will be remembered thanks to a number of memorable storylines in his near decade and a half stay on the show.

One of his most memorable storylines came in 2018 when viewers were introduced to Craig’s struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Meanwhile, his friendships with Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon) and Faye Windass (played by Ellie Leach) have also endeared him to Corrie fans over the years.
Coronation Street returns to our screen’s this evening at 8pm on Wednesday (May 7).
