One character who fans are desperate to see back is Michelle Collins’ Cindy Beale, who has been away from Walford since Thursday, February 25.

Cindy was bribed and ordered to leave by her ex-husband Ian Beale, who she had been at odds with since her affair with Junior Knight was exposed.

Learning that Ian’s mum Kathy Beale attacked her with a shovel on Christmas Day, Cindy shot Ian in the arm, before later pushing him into the path of a speeding car that crashed into the Queen Vic and caused Martin’s death.

Despite Ian bribing and telling her that he’d tell the police everything that happened if she returned, Cindy will be back on Monday, May 5.

Speaking to Digital Spy about her return, Michelle said: “Cindy comes back and thinks that everyone is going to have open arms and welcome her back, but she gets a very frosty reception.

“[She thinks they’ll] go ‘oh everything is forgiven’ and actually, it doesn’t go the way. She’s quite deluded, isn’t she?”

When it comes to Cindy being at fault for the Queen Vic explosion, Michelle said that ‘she hasn’t seen how upset everybody is’, but is still ‘remorseful’ over what happened.

She added: “Cindy pushing Ian was a catalyst for the events that followed but you could say the same about Ian as, if he hadn’t reacted in the way that he did, Cindy might not have retaliated and the explosion wouldn’t have happened.

“So, in a sense, I think she feels that he is just as much to blame as she is.”

While she may be one of the show’s villains, Michelle said Cindy has ‘unconditional love for her kids’ in spite of everything.

“Nobody is really perfect in this Square. Someone has either been to prison, is hiding a secret, or they’ve done something they shouldn’t. I don’t think anyone is innocent,” she joked.

Cindy’s return will arrive on the day of her son Peter Beale and his pregnant fiancée Lauren Branning’s engagement party, with drama set to follow her at every turn.
