Emmerdale fans took a trip down memory lane this week with a past Emma Barton storyline revisited.
In episodes earlier this week, Moira Dingle was left panicked to receive a letter addressed to ‘The Family of Emma Barton’ and didn’t know whether to share it with Ross Barton.

The discovery left Moira haunted by memories of the past after she killed Emma back in 2017. Eventually, she decided to show Ross the mysterious letter, which revealed he has a half-brother whom he had never met.
Following an intervention from Matty Barton, Ross decided to contact Lewis with the two meeting up. However, Ross struggled to navigate Lewis’ many questions about their family without revealing the many dark secrets he needs to keep.
It soon became increasingly hard for Lewis and Ross to have a conversation about the past without upsetting each other. In the end, Ross decided to go, leaving a hurt Lewis behind for good… but is this the last we’ve seen of him?

Soap watchers will recall that Emma, who appeared on the ITV soap from 2015 to 2017, was played by actress Gillian Kearney.
Post-Emmerdale, Gillian, 53, swapped acting for directing, having directed the drama series Clink in 2019 and an instalment of the BBC series Moving On in 2020.
But she hasn’t left acting altogether as Gillian appeared in the much-loved ITV drama Vera not long ago, portraying Deborah McSwain opposite Shaun Dooley, in an episode last year.
Taking to Twitter, now X, last year soap watchers were left stunned to see Emmerdale’s Emma star in Vera, sharing their shock.

One person said: “Emma Barton on Vera (tuned in late)”, a different account wrote: “She was Emma Barton in Emmerdale #Vera” while another put: “What programme has gabby mum been in before, im sure she a villian in one of the soaps #vera.”
Elsewhere, a different viewer commented at the time: “Just watch’s a episode of #Vera called “tender” had a great cast @BrendaBlethyn @Riley_Jones_88 @David_J_Leon @SarahKImpey @shaundooley Julia Sawalha, @reecedouglas1 and former #Emmerdale actress Gillian Kearney.”

Another asked: “Is that Emma from #Emmerdale on #Vera”, a different account put: “What’s the mam been in? She looks familiar? Was she in Corrie or Emmerdale? #Vera.”
Gillian is best known for playing Debbie McGrath in Brookside and the spin-off mini-series Damon and Debbie. She also played Jessica Harrison in Casualty, DI Bridges in Silent Witness, Sue Garland in Shameless and Tamsin Shaffer in Suspects.
