Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has faced some terrible health battles over the years in Emmerdale and already has a short life expectancy.
But she’s now potentially facing the biggest battle of them all and this one could shorten her life even faster.
In the quest to fulfil her desire to have a baby, Sarah underwent tests which revealed she had an inflamed cervix. She had a biopsy taken, but having kept all of her loved ones in the dark, she has no one to take with her to get her results.
She bravely arrives at the hospital alone and it’s not long before she gets the worst news she could have imagined – she is in the early stages of cervical cancer. But there is one tiny nugget of good news, or at least that’s how she hears it

Sarah is distraught at the thought of having cancer and struggles to process what she’s been told.
As she leaves in a daze, she sees Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) who’s on shift at the hospital. He can tell something is wrong, and though she tries to style it out, it’s not long before her façade falls and she blurts out her cancer diagnosis.
A shocked Jacob does his best to comfort her and asks how she found out, and Sarah spills the whole baby quest story.
