Jim Street might have left S.W.A.T., but being gone doesn’t mean being forgotten. And it also doesn’t have to mean gone for good, either. After all, when we last saw Street at the end of Alex Russell’s last episode as the character in March, there was a pretty big, wedding-shaped tease that suggested the character could be making a return. Because there’s no way Street and Christina “Chris” Alonso could possibly get married off-screen, right? So, is there a chance we’ll see them again on S.W.A.T.?

Is Jim Street Coming Back to S.W.A.T.?
“How’s this — Chris and I will have you over in a few weeks for the engagement party,” Street tells Tan with his parting words, complete with a wink. “Just don’t say anything yet, especially to Chris!” And then, that’s it. That’s the last we see of Jim Street, who rides off into his motorcycle during Season 7, Episode 5, titled “End of the Road,” ready to head up the S.W.A.T. team in Long Beach. Lina Esco’s Chris had left the show the season before to run a safe house for immigrant women.

The two were making it work, though, off-screen. Always a bummer for fans not to see it, but it’s more of a bummer for fans to have couples they’ve rooted for break up, so all in all, a good development. And then, S.W.A.T. went and dropped the wedding bomb and nothing else. We haven’t seen either of them after. And as long as the two are together, even if off-screen, there is hope.

“You know, I would love to [do a wedding],” S.W.A.T. showrunner Andrew Dettman recently told TVLine. “In our minds, Street and Chris are still very much part of the SWAT family.”

He also promised that the two would absolutely not get married off-screen. “No, I wouldn’t do that,” which should at least be a comfort to fans who would love to see such a monumental moment on screen, if it ever does happen. There isn’t much time for them to do it, though, as S.W.A.T. is set to conclude with Season 8.

In the meantime, the showrunner promised the two characters “are still together, doing their thing. We did that little nod that they’re engaged, always hoping that we would have the opportunity to [follow up with a wedding]. The door is open to all of the characters from the past [to return in some capacity], because I think the audience would love that and we would love that. The door is open for Luca (played by Kenny Johnson until mid-Season 7) or Street or Chris to somehow work back into some episodes. I would be thrilled about that.”

S.W.A.T. streams on Paramount+.
