Yellowstone star Dawn Olivieri’s upcoming show Homestead: The Series has been renewed for a second season ahead of the first even being completed. The show is a spinoff of the 2024 post-apocalyptic movie Homestead.

Producers Angel Studios ran into trouble filming the continuation of its 2024 hit movie earlier this year, when snow in Utah shut down on-location filming. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Angel Studios has now found funding to complete Season 1 and preemptively renew the movie spinoff. Filming on Season 1 will resume this summer and lead directly into the second round of episodes.

“Homestead has captivated audiences worldwide with its bold and uplifting vision of the post-apocalyptic genre,” Angel Studios president Jordan Harmon said in a statement. “The stellar cast, fueled by the unwavering support of our Angel Guild, has not only has allowed us to greenlight the completion of Season 1 but also secured an early greenlight for Season 2, ensuring fans can dive back into the story sooner than ever.”

Angel Studios previously released the two filmed episodes from Season 1 on its own website and app, with the rest of the series also expected to find a home on those platforms. The rest of Season 1 is expected to be released before the end of 2025.

Both the film and the book are based on the 10-book Black Autumn series by authors Jeff Kirkham and Jason Ross. The first entry in the literary saga, Black Autumn, was published in 2018 and directly inspired the events in the Homestead movie.

Homestead (2024)

Homestead: The Series picks up in the aftermath of the 2024 movie, where a group of survivors band together following a dirty bomb being detonated in Los Angeles. SWAT star Bailey Chase will reprise his role as former Green Beret soldier Jeff Eriksson, while Olivieri returns as Jenna Ross, the owner of a mountain fortress for survivors. Jesse Hutch (Arrow and Batwoman) will crossover from the movie to the TV show too, as survivor Evan Lee.

Newcomers for the Homestead streaming spinoff include Outer Banks and Nashville actor Charles Esten and Special Ops: Lioness star Jill Wagner. Homestead director Ben Smallbone returns to helm the streaming episodes, which will be produced by Angel’s Ben Kasica and Andrea Royer. The 2024 movie also featured Marvel star Neal McDonough, Walker’s Kearran Giovanni and FBI: Most Wanted cast member Susan Misner.

“We’re thrilled to bring Homestead back for another season,” Smallbone said. “The story’s heart lies in its characters and their journey to find hope amidst chaos. With Bailey and Charles leading the charge, we’re excited to explore new dimensions of their stories and the world they’re fighting to protect.”

Angel Studios Previously Had a Hit with Sound of Freedom

The 2023 movie dramatized the efforts of anti-sex trafficking group Operation Underground Railroad, but drew controversy for its connections to the Qanon movement.
Angel Studios also adapted the Wingfeather Saga series of novels as a free streaming series in 2022.
The production company’s show The Chosen — which stars Jonathan Roumie — is an adaptation of the biblical stories of Jesus Christ.
“The remaining Season 1 and 2 takes us deeper into the aftermath, as the Homestead transforms from a survivalist stronghold into the fragile heart of a new civilization — where rising hope collides with the threat of war, and the choice to lead could cost everything,” Kasica promised.

Olivieri — who played Claire Dutton in 1883 and Sarah Atwood in Yellowstone — told Screen Rant in December that she was attracted to Homestead’s post-apocalyptic setting.

“I saw [the premise] and I was like, ‘Who doesn’t like a film like that?'” she said. “Everybody across the board, I don’t care who you talk to, they go, ‘What’s Homestead about?’ You [explain that] it’s a post-apocalyptic film [and they say], ‘Oh, I want to see that!’ That says something! Everybody loves to play the game of, ‘Who would I be if the grid goes down? How prepared [am I]? How could I use the resources? How could I use my cleverness? How far would I get?'”

Homestead: The Series’s remaining Season 1 episodes will premiere on the Angel Studios website and app later this year.
